The Build

Producing the group sculpture was very fun and exciting but, it did come with its challenges. even thought we had some problems, we managed to fix them as a group.

The sculpture is a representation of everyone's idea in my group of four. it has Elle's idea of a swan feather, Tianna's idea of a wave, Jasmines idea of triangles and webbing and, it included my idea of pyramids that could be walked threw and sat in. Combing all of these gave us a very successful sculpture that all of use were proud of.

On the first day of making, we made the feather and a pyramided to support it. we managed to get this standing up on its own. this selection allows people to stand under the feather for shelter.

On the second day, as a group we moved on to adding the other features in the surrounding area including my pyramids, Jasmines triangles and Tianna's wave. we managed to get all of that and we started to add webbing to make everything link together.

On the third day, we made sure everything was string and could stand up. we tapped and tapped our sculpture to the floor and began adding even more webbing.

On the fourth day, we had finished making. the last day consisted if adding finishing touches and details. we added a sign and added cassette tape to personalise our sculpture.

We faced a few problems but the biggest one was the webbing. At first the webbing was to tight so it was causing sections of the sculpture to rip and collapse, to fix this problem we cut the string off, made the sections we wanted the string to come of more durable and added the strings back but we made them loser this time. That problem was then resolved.

Our other problem was due to running out of resources. on one day, we ran out od staples which meant we had to rely on tape which proved to not be as strong.

Overall, I love our sculpture. I feel like we was extremely successful and it came out a lot  better than I thought It would. The only thing I would change about this, is the colour of the cardboard. This is because, it was a mixture of white and brown which made it look a bit messy. My favourite part is the webbing and the cassette tape that we weaved in. That small feature made everything come together.

The Serpentine Gallery

As a class, we visited the Serpentine Gallery to view the 2015 Pavilion. The Pavilion is temporary and was created by the architect's called Jose Selgas and Lucia Cano. he designer of the beautiful Pavilion is SelgasCano.

SelgasCano's master piece is a playful and fun pavilion that all types of audiences can enjoy. Children are very interested and fascinated by the bright colours and how walking threw the Pavilion is like an adventure that stimulates their senses. Whereas adults are amazed by the unique and distinctive shape of the Pavilion and from every angle there is something new and exciting to look at.

The Pavilion has various colours along with mirrored material, ribbon and translucent sections. the main material of the piece is Ethylene Tetrafluoroethylene which is layered twice. The frame is a made from steel.

Personally, I found the Pavilion to be breath taking! I managed to do a few observational drawings from the piece. Viewing the pavilion influenced me to think about using abstract form and shape when I go to make my own shelter with my college group.

Geometric Maquett

This was a small experiment that was done during one of my lesson. we had to made a form of shelter using tape, paper and cardboard. With these resources it taught use how to use the materials effectively, and how to make the overall sculpture stronger.

The problem I came across was, when the sculpture was put together, it had a lot of weak spots. This meant I had to work on these sections and come up with a way of fixing this problems. The problem was fixed with an extra layer of tape and small supports made from cardboard and paper.
